The Evolution of an All-Rounder: New Flic Twist Smart Button Launches

Flic Smart Button has been with us in the smarthome field for many years. The company started successfully with the Flic-1 Button and the crowdfunding campaign back in 2015. Now, the third generation of Flic is stepping up its game.

The development of Flic

Even then, the Flic-1 Button was a great addition to the fledgling smarthome space to control your lights, music, and other smart devices and services stylishly and conveniently.

The company then followed up directly in 2019 with the Flic 2 Button and the Flic Hub LR for HomeKit. In our review of the Flic 2, we give you an overview of the numerous possibilities for using it.

Using a Flic Hub takes the capabilities of the Flic Button to another level. For connected services such as IFTTT, Sonos, Web Requests, and of course HomeKit integration, or soon Matter, this is a necessity.

Yesterday, today, tomorrow

The Flic Hub LR has also proven itself over the years in our company. Since the update for Flic Button HomeKit use, we switch various other HomeKit devices with it every day and wouldn’t want to miss the convenience of the additional physical button as an alternative to Siri calls.

The new Flic Hub Mini is now the latest hub with a smaller, streamlined design. It has the same features as the Hub LR with a few exceptions and is a great choice for basic home automation without HomeKit or IR Blaster. Just like the Hub LR, it uses Bluetooth 5 Low Energy Long Range to communicate with up to 64 Flic products over distances of up to 50 meters.

Although it may take a little more time, the Flic Hub Mini will receive Matter support via an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update, which Flic has specifically promised over the coming months. With the good experience with Flic over the many years, we trust it. The now new Flic Twist will then also be ready for HomeKit via Matter. We will, of course, keep you up to date on this. Meanwhile, Flic itself also gives appropriate background and prospects in development on the subject of Matter.

The latest all-rounder

The new Flic Twist is a unique smarthome controller. Packed with features and fully configurable for advanced users, yet accessible to everyone in the family.

Press, double press, rotate and press & rotate. Each function allows full customization of lights, music, blinds and all smarthome devices. Setup and configuration is done via the Flic App.

Of course, we love the integration of all our devices into HomeKit or through Matter. But the Flic Twist also inspires with its flexibility and the comprehensive functions together with the Flic Hub LR or Flic Hub Mini. Such a hub is also the prerequisite for the Flic Twist. We currently use the Flic Twist directly via integration with the IKEA DIRIGERA Hub, Hue Bridge and IFTTT with the SwitchBot Curtain. Currently a necessary workaround.

The Flic Twist offers you features that HomeKit alone won’t offer anytime soon. For example, smart dimming. With it, you can dim lights with different brightness easily and effectively by adding the change to the current brightness. With the Advanced Dimming function, the brightness, color and saturation can be adjusted simultaneously when turning and lights can be turned on in sequence.

Flic Twist’s Scene Blender mode allows you to set up to four different lighting scenes. The transitions between the scenes are smooth, so you can choose exactly the level in between that suits your current mood.

When it comes to assembly, the Flic Twist is just as flexible. Put it on the table, screw it to the wall, or magnetically attach it to a metal surface. It is powered by 2x AAA batteries that last up to two years.
