Lidl has introduced HomeKit devices to its stores years ago. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Lidl’s first Matter-compatible outlet has now officially received certification from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA).

Previously, when purchasing Lidl devices for one’s Apple Home, a hub was mandatory. This hub integrated Zigbee devices into all major smart home platforms. However, there are plans to change this.

In this context, the discounter has now had the first outlet certified to support Matter-over-WiFi. If the price aligns with the Zigbee version, the new outlet could cost around €10.

Matter Devices as Takeaway Items

Affordable Matter devices from Hama, TP-Link Tapo or Meross are already available. However, the placement in the discount store is likely to contribute to bringing the new smart home standard to more households.

Lidl has partnered with Tuya, one of the leading manufacturers of smart home devices, for its previous smart home devices. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the new Matter-compatible outlet also originates from Tuya.
