We have already reported that Eve Systems is planning a new version of the Eve Cam. Even though the images at the FCC suggested a square camera, the new model has not undergone any visual changes. But as expected, there have been some improvements on the inside.
Similar to its predecessor, the new generation is currently a pure HomeKit Secure Video camera. This is not surprising since the new smart home standard Matter currently does not support cameras.
The Eve Cam can be integrated into Apple Home via Wi-Fi. In addition to the 2.4GHz band, the new model now also supports the 5GHz band. Furthermore, it has moved away from Micro-USB and now features a modern USB-C port.
iCloud+ Required
To use HomeKit Secure Video, a minimum 50GB iCloud+ storage plan is required. Additionally, a Home Hub, such as an Apple TV (4th generation or newer) or HomePod (mini), is needed.
The new Eve Cam can already be pre-ordered in Germany for €149.95 with a pre-order price guarantee on Amazon and is set to be released on September 18th.
