After reporting in June about the AirPlay 2 audio adapter from Eve Systems, a new generation of the HomeKit Secure Video camera, Eve Cam, has now emerged.
Our colleagues from appgefahren have found a new entry for the next generation of the Eve Cam at the American regulatory authority FCC.
The first generation of the camera, which can be used exclusively via Apple HomeKit, has already been available since May 2020. Via HomeKit Secure Video, the encrypted recordings can be stored in the iCloud and do not end up on other servers.
New form factor and improved Wi-Fi connectivity
So far, of course, quite little information about the second generation is known. Instead of a round form factor, however, the new model will come with a square case, where the stand can apparently be removed. Official images are not yet available, but in our cover photo, you can see an example of what it might look like.

In addition, the Wi-Fi connection should also be able to be established via 5 GHz and no longer exclusively via 2.4 GHz in the future. The power connection via USB-C would be desirable.
With Matter, Eve Systems has shifted its focus from pure HomeKit devices to the new Smarthome standard, which also supports all other major Smarthome platforms. However, security cameras are not yet considered in the current version of the standard. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if Eve Systems will already announce a Matter update with the new model for the future.
We assume that the manufacturer will officially present the new security camera at the IFA in early September in Berlin.
