Family groth: New SwitchBot Curtain 3 with Matter

Just a few days ago, we were able to tell you about the great news at SwitchBot that the SwitchBot Bot, SwitchBot Motion Sensor, and SwitchBot Contact Sensor can now integrate with HomeKit through Matter thanks to Hub 2. Now, SwitchBot is following up with the brand new SwitchBot Curtain 3.

SwitchBot has remained true to the modern and elegant design line with the Curtain 3. Otherwise, quite a few things have changed and have been consistently developed further. We are SwitchBot users from the first hour and we notice quite positively the expertise of SwitchBot’s own developments.

The new SwitchBot Curtain 3 is available in the familiar Rod, U-Rail and I-Rail model variations. Overall, the Curtain 3 has grown in length and now measures 85 × 72.5 × 205 mm, compared to the Curtain 2 with 84 × 76 × 143 mm.

Included in the new SwitchBot Curtain 3 is a 3350 mAh lithium-ion battery that can last up to 8 months. With the optional SwitchBot Solar Panel 3, which can be permanently attached to the Curtain 3, you don’t have to worry about battery capacity anymore. The module supports charging even in low light, for endless power.

In addition, the SwitchBot Curtain 3 now manages to weigh up to 16 kg, compared to the SwitchBot 2 with 8 kg of curtain fabric that can be moved. Nevertheless, it is now particularly quiet in operation. In QuietDrift Mode ≤25dB, in the faster Performance Mode ≤42dB.

Installed on the curtain rail, or rod is also the SwitchBot Curtain 3 with a few simple steps. A new feature is an additional magnetic sensor that can be attached to the curtain rail. This helps the new SwitchBot 3 Curtain not to get out of rhythm, for example with slippery curtain rails.

With our SwitchBot Curtain 2, every few months we lend a hand and move it a few centimeters back to the appropriate position. With the new additional sensor, this should no longer be the case with the SwitchBot Curtain 3 in the long term, as it always has a fixed orientation point due to the magnet and recalibrates itself. However, the magnetic sensor is not absolutely necessary for the operation of the SwitchBot Curtain 3. Nevertheless, a good addition in case of need, we think.

The initial setup is done via the SwitchBot app to set the start and end point when opening and closing. This can also be done in five minutes thanks to a good description in pictures or as video instructions in the app.

Thanks to the SwitchBot Hub 2, with which the SwitchBot Curtain 3 connects via Bluetooth LE, it is integrated into HomeKit in the usual simple way via Matter. After pairing, the curtain is immediately ready for control in Apple Home, Siri and in scenes and automations.
