Should you get a current Philips Ambilight TV, you will no longer be able to sync it with your Hue lighting without additional hardware, Toengel reports and has since been confirmed by Signify.

While the company Signify is behind the Philips Hue lighting, TP Vision produces the TVs. While “borrowing” well-known brand names is common practice, in this case it puts customers at a disadvantage.

Until now, Philips Hue lighting could be synced directly with Ambilight TVs. However, this is no longer possible with the 2023 models, regardless of whether it is an entry-level or high-end model.

Instead, as with other TV manufacturers, the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box is required. Only users of Samsung TVs can do without additional hardware and resort to an (expensive) app.
