Like Philips Hue, the WiZ company is part of the Signify group and is probably not necessarily known to Apple Home users so far. That’s about to change thanks to a free over-the-air (OTA) firmware update for existing lamps, fixtures and accessories coming in the next few weeks. Other manufacturers have now also announced their concrete intentions. In our post on the Matter schedule, we give you an up-to-date overview.

WiZ certifies its entire portfolio to work with Matter, so all new products and many already purchased will be compatible with Matter. All products purchased since the second quarter of 2021 will be ready for the update at the end of 2022, according to WiZ’s planning. Here is a list of Matter-compatible WiZ products.

In the second half of 2023, all new WiZ products will then bear the Matter logo on their packaging. Users should thus be able to easily recognize the extensive compatibility. WiZ devices connect via WLAN, so they do not require an additional manufacturer bridge.

We are very proud that our products are compatible with Matter from the start. The smart home standard will accelerate the spread of smart connected products and enable users to connect their products from different suppliers. By working with Matter, our product portfolio will be accessible and comprehensively compatible to even more people.”

Maikel Klomp – Managing Director of WiZ Connected

Presumably, the manufacturer app will be reserved for exciting functions such as the control of the energy consumption of the illuminants and an announced new function of presence detection through “SpaceSense”. The feature uses Wi-Fi sensor technology that watches for variations in signals that indicate movement. This enables motion detection without line-of-sight or the need to install separate sensors. Only the future will show if and how this function behaves in relation to Matter.

Many users found the need for additional motion detection hardware in their system to be complex, expensive, and cumbersome. SpaceSense™ removes these barriers for the first time, making automation and other advanced benefits of smart lighting accessible to all.

Danny Lousberg – Head of Software Product Management of WiZ

We ourselves have already dealt with the WiZ lighting system and are very happy to be able to use the manufacturer’s products in our Apple Home ecosystem in the future thanks to Matter. The devices convinced us in their first use with good workmanship, good technical features and exciting design concepts. At the same time, WiZ products are in the attractive, medium price segment. As soon as the Matter firmware update is available, we will of course inform you and share our experience.
