So far, Aqara’s devices require a corresponding Zigbee hub from the manufacturer. However, the Chinese company also wants to release devices with Thread in the future that support the new Matter smarthome standard without an additional hub. Aqara has now announced on Twitter that the first device will be available soon.

Aqara has already announced two new devices with Thread at the beginning of 2022. It is a contact sensor as well as a motion detector. Visually, the devices are reminiscent of the Aqara P1 Door & Window Sensor and the Aqara Body Sensor P1.

Instead of a proprietary hub, Thread simply require a Thread Border Router that connects the devices to the home network. This could be a HomePod mini or Apple TV, for example. According to Aqara, they are also working on their own Thread Border Router.

As soon as we have further information or the first Matter over Thread device from Aqara is available, we will let you know. Download our free SmartApfel-App to never miss any news again.
