With tvOS 17, a long overdue feature will make its way onto the Apple TV in the fall. The new software version allows to activate a sleep timer for the first time.

If you are one of those people who like to fall asleep with the TV on, you can look forward to tvOS 17. A new sleep timer can be found in the control center there. This can be used to set a time of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours after which the Apple TV will automatically turn off.

How to activate the sleep timer

To activate the sleep timer, all you have to do is press and hold the TV/Control Center button. Then you can select the new sleep timer and set the duration.

Until now, either the remote control of the TV was needed for this or an automation had to be created. The release of tvOS 17 is expected in the fall. Currently, the software version is only available as a beta.
